1It’s interesting to me that, as a foreign service officer who signed a document promising to publically follow the policies of the U.S. government as a condition of your employment, you are willfully violate the conditions of your employment, and have from the beginning of the project culminating in your book while retaining your position.
Tell me, how do you justify continuing to draw a paycheck and benefits from State long after stopping keeping up your end of the bargain?
Your points may very well be valid, and I’m certain the public appreciates your cander. The ethical thing to do was to resign before you decided to go forward with this project, however. That you continue to draw salary and benefits from U.S. taxpayer is akin to stealing.

2You are just sad, and wrong, Michael.
Free speech does not stop at the Federal doorstep. Federal employees swear their oath to uphold the Constitution you ignorant turd, not to follow “policies of the U.S. government.” The First Amendment controls my actions, not some bureaucratic imperatives designed to protect State Department officials from criticism.
If I do not speak out, who will? If people inside the government do not inform The People about what only they know from the inside, who will? If all you want is for government employees to be mindless drones who follow lockstep behind their “leaders,” this is the wrong blog, and the wrong country, for you.
In fact, if you prefer government employees who only write what they are told, try here: http://www.kcna.co.jp
