I’m helping someone sell a house in Northern Virginia and, knowing many readers are from the area, ask that you take a look. Regular readers, back to our usual snark soon…

    They sold it.

The house is within the excellent Falls Church City Schools District (See ratings; School bus stops in front of the townhouse). Offered at $539,000.

Three bedrooms, 2½ baths, solid oak hardwood floors (not laminate), all appliances (stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, washer+dryer, range hood), redone kitchen cabinets, new no-maintenance resin counter tops (granite may look nice, but check the regular maintenance it requires), finished basement with built-in workbench and shelves, eastern and southern direct lighting, open kitchen, sunny fenced in back patio with composted beds to grow veggies or flowers, a Japanese Red Maple and a flowering cherry tree, one assigned parking spot, plenty of street parking, monthly condo fee of only $75 includes community swimming pool with special kiddie pool (see photos below.)

Quiet street, public park with playground two minutes’ walk. Pet-friendly neighborhood. Two minute walk to shops and restaurants, a fitness club, CVS, post office, excellent public library. Harris Teeter coming, in walking distance. Close to East Falls Church Metro, Orange Line to Foggy Bottom or Ballston and West Falls Church Metro, where the Silver Line to Tysons and Dulles connects. 15 minute drive to FSI/NFATC.

When you need to rent, the property rents easily because of the location and schools; expect about $2800+ each month.

OMG. Well, I guess that let’s Tom Goad’s ghost outta the picture. (insert rolling eyes smiley here)

I can’t even imagine making the kind of money it must take just to qualify. And here I thought the economy was almost dead. Apparently..I’m an idiot.

It isn’t just about having the money, it’s about how you got it and what you do with it.

“In his nine months as secretary of state, Kerry, the man, has shown a genuine capacity for mediocrity and an almost tragicomic haplessness. But blaming him would be like shouting at the waiter because your steak is undercooked.”

Steak? More like shit on a shingle.

I think what you are doing is great and appreciate your work a lot.

Reading what you write I have come to wonder about the single mindedness engrained in mainstream american life and thinking. My two observations in that regards are:

      - When it comes to PROBLEMS: the SOLUTION is always discussed in terms of guns, blackhawks or prisons (or a combination thereof)

      - When it comes to COSTS: it is always expressed in MONEY and rarely expressed in LIFE, BLOOD, HATE and SUFFERING (and when then only in our losses – usually military personnel – and never in ‘their’ – usually civil – losses).

I think this mind set lays at the foundation of how the US has managed to gamble away an incredible worldwide GOODWILL directly after WWII (heck even the german and soviet citizenry loved America back then) to todays sentiment of viewing the US as THE WORLDS BIGGEST TERRORIST.

Latest “trickle-down” theory: “Anyone who leaks has to pay the price.”

It DEPENDS on who is doing the leaking.

“I can’t even imagine making the kind of money it must take just to qualify. And here I thought the economy was almost dead. ”

This is part of the problem why there is a disconnect between DC/VA/MD and the US.

The economy here is doing great, in sharp contrast to the rest of the country and those participating in the government system dont realize the gulf and it’s not on their doorstep. Its why contacting the elected officials continuously is so important and reminding them, hey there is a country out there.

One of my republican friends complained last year of a coming sequester if the defense budget wasnt raised. This was last year. When it was pointed out the majority of the country has all along been facing high unemployment and economic problems, the response was “So what? It doesnt affect me.”

      That’s the attitude to change

What? An ad for a an half a million dollar house that is a 15 minute drive to FSI? On an anti DOS blog? What douchebag would square that circle? Ridiculous. Enjoy your TSP and commenting here while ripping off tenants at 2800 a month.

Falls Church is very popular with the DS crowd – it’s only 13 minutes away from the nest for the Flying Monkeys.

No idea what you are talking about. If you are anti-government but rely on a government salary to pay for a house that is 15 minutes from FSI that trains government monkeys then where is your integrity? We despise the government. Who advertises a house that only privileged government scumbags can afford?

I am not anti-DOS/govt per se, but anti-stupidity, and hope that the two stances are not always in conflict. In accordance with the anti-stupidity policy, go live under a bridge for all I care. Anyway, my friend sold it already.

I am not sure what an anti-stupidity policy is when not being able to afford a 500k small house forces someone to live under a bridge. Tom Joad must be selling well to attack your followers. I don’t live in Northern VA but I have the sense that not everyone is doing as well as your friend who sold the house. But i guess that is the point of your book. Hopefully only stupid people are poor.

Wow, I am REALLY not sure now what your beef is. I helped sell a house. The price is what it is. Some places are much more expensive, some much cheaper. I am writing a book about the working poor (Ghosts of Tom Joad). How does all that connect for you?

Oh wait, because only a poor person can write about poverty? Maybe, but if I get cancer I’m not limiting my choice of oncologists to ones who had tumors themselves.

Lastly, my pension from the government is something I earned over my years of work. Can’t see why choosing not to subject myself and my family to starvation by refusing to collect that somehow taints my work. Read the message, don’t just slag off the messenger. I’ll help you– I am the worst human being you will ever know, mean to babies and dogs. And so what? What I write either illuminates and entertains you, or it doesn’t.
