I’ll be at Cambridge, Massachusetts’ coolest bookstore, Revolution Books, May 17 from 5pm for some reading, signing and certainly conversation in connection with my new book, Ghosts of Tom Joad: A Story of the #99Percent.

Revolution Books is at 1158 Mass. Avenue, 2nd floor, Cambridge, MA 02138. Tel. 617-492-5443. Nearest T stop is Harvard Square.

Everyone is welcome and there is no charge. There will be a Q&A session where we can talk about the new book, the old book (We Meant Well: How I Helped Lose the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People) and/or my experiences being run out of my former career with the Department of State because I wrote about their waste and mismanagement of the Iraq War reconstruction.

Since this will be my only chance to speak in Cambridge, please come join me at Revolution Books!

Have fun at the revolution, PVB!

Speaking of how we meant well and all, here is some news. I’ll put this in the form of a game show; I’ll give clues and you see if you can guess the topic.

Clues: Because they just aren’t killing each other fast enough. Because we might be pulling out, but the action must continue. Because they aren’t going bankrupt fast enough. Because if they can’t be convinced to spend their money this way, they might spend it on socialized medicine or some such nonsense, and that’s not why we went in there and got rid of Saddam for them. Because war is business and business is a-boomin’. Because the depleted uranium just isn’t doing the trick. Because what’s the point of leaving a country in chaos and civil war if you can’t make a buck at the back end? Because having them pay for their own reconstruction isn’t bringing in the jake fast enough. Because these arms don’t just sell themselves, peeps.

Did you guess “Reasons why the US is selling a billion dollars of arms to Iraq”? Why, that’s right! You must be a budding American capitalist. Please collect your prize on the way out; a set of genuine Ginsu steak knives made in Taiwan, all shipping included, guaranteed not to rust, bust, or collect dust.
