Senator Jim Webb of Virginia had me at “hello” when he faced down George Bush a few years ago. The Senator hit it square on the head again yesterday when speaking about the money pit we are feeding in Afghanistan. Webb said:

“You can pretty well fight international terrorism without remaking an entire societal structure. The real question is: what is the ultimate objective with all of these ground forces and all of these infrastructure programs in terms of the long-term advantage?”

“If there is any nation in the world that really needs nation-building right now, it is the United States. When we are putting hundreds of billions of dollars into infrastructure in another country, it should only be done if we can articulate a vital national interest because we quite frankly need to be doing a lot more of that here.”

While the sentiment is true enough, it shows a fundamental mis-understanding that pretty much all americans have of the true nature of its War-of-Terror. One the principle objectives of the fake war-on-terror, has been to redirect funds and resources away from the civilian sector(if such a thing even exists in the US anymore) and directly to the military. You see, if the people in the US understood there was no reason or rationale to maintain a trillion-dollar+ gold plated military, then normal social pressure would develop to vastly reduce the size and scope of the miliary. But thats not the worst of it, oh no. What would also happen is the funds and resources freed up could be deployed to finally start tackling the huge list of long-neglected problems at home. Some examples, public transit, a polluted enviroment, failing education system, law and dis-order. There are many others of others, but you get the point. Trasnformative social reform is a direct threat to corporate dominance. Green energy threatens fossil-fuel cartels, Rail, uurban mass transit threatens the oil-auto cartel as well as big-box retail. Local-organic ag threatens, again, oil and Indust-ag operations and so on.

The mil-indus. complex you see, amoung other things, exsists to help ensure no meangingful social or technological reform can or will occur at home simply through sheer lack of resouces. Want a green energy grid?, rebuilt inter-urban rail, education reform, universal health care? Cant have any of em, no money or personal you see. The military has it all.

“It does not matter if the war is not real, or when it is, victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won, it it meant to be continuous. The essential act of modern warfare if the destruction of the products of human labor. A hierarchical society is only possibly on the basis of poverty and ignornace.” -Winston Smith, 1984

You americans allready have the ignorance part pretty well completed. Now your elites are working on the poverty end of the equation, and by all accounts, are doing a spectacular job of it…
