Why is Obama bashing a Whistleblower Law he signed? Because he isn’t going to actually follow the law, which tries to grant whistleblower protections to government contractors.
Mother Jones weighs in with an excellent analysis of the a new law supposedly expanding whistleblower protections for some government employees. Obama also signed the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which extends similar protections to defense contractors who expose waste and corruption. But the NDAA signing came with a caveat that blindsided the bill’s backers and has some in the whistleblower community up in arms: In a “signing statement,” (remember how George W. used those to circumvent the law?) Obama wrote that the bill’s whistleblowing protections “could be interpreted in a manner that would interfere with my authority to manage and direct executive branch officials,” and he promised to ignore them if they conflicted with his power to “supervise, control, and correct employees’ communications with the Congress in cases where such communications would be unlawful or would reveal information that is properly privileged or otherwise confidential.”
Mother Jones was also kind enough to quote me in the article as saying the signing statement “is merely another expression of [the Obama] administration’s hostile policy toward all whistleblowers…It disappoints me, and devalues my own efforts to bring transparency to the government.”

1Obama’s arrogation of arbitrary executive power is both the inverse and the converse of King Henry VIII’s Act of Supremacy, in which he made himself the Head of the “Church of England” with Parliament’s token consent.
When King Henry did so, Parliament and the majority of English bishops gave him one limitation, they agreed that he was the Head of the Church “insofar as the law of God allows.” Which was a very strong limitation, continuing to this day as Queen Elizabeth II obeys it and does not meddle much in affairs of church OR state!
But Emperor Obama acknowledges no limitations by God, nor even by the Constitution.

6I need to add to self effacement the term self deprecation. Obama wanted-actually needed- to achieve the elevation to POTUS. Once achieved he had no plan of what he should or could do. It is now only about his “legacy” (as if he’s in control-which he isn’t). He is cursed with getting what he thought he wanted. Pretty cliche destiny.

Everybody hates whistleblowers.
It’s been my experience that the cream, and the scum, rise to the top of your various bureaucratic structures in equal proportion. And some of the “cream” has elements of scum in it.
The last thing any bureaucratic bootlicker wants is for some mensch buried deep in the recesses of the organization to reveal all the waste, fraud and abuse. That just doesn’t look good on the resume.
That’s why the State Department hasn’t had a permanent IG in a good long whlle. The best way to ensure that no one finds said waste, fraud and abuse is to not have anyone looking for it.

The Queen of the UK (and of some Commonwealth Dominions) is subject to an analogous division between her public and personal identities, however in her case it’s a Constitutional requirement to separate them, and furthermore it’s the inverse of how Obama’s PERSONAL role is the inflated one. I’m referring to the “Queen’s Birthday”. The present Queen’s REAL, PERSONAL birthday (sometime in May) is a PRIVATE matter, not for public celebration. However the UK, by law, celebrates a PUBLIC holiday called “The Queen’s Birthday”, but it’s not on the same day as her real birthday. (Australia does the same thing although on a different day than England!)
In other words, the PUBLIC celebration of “The Queen’s Birthday” – which is in a similar spirit as the American Emperor’s PUBLIC “inauguration” – is set by law. And its being set by law is a symbol of how her PUBLIC, constitutional role is NOT THE SAME as her private personality. It’s a reminder that the Monarchy transcends the individual personality of whoever happens to be the monarch.
But Obama’s second, unconstitutional, public “inauguration” is the inverse of the Queen’s Birthday. It’s NOT set by law, rather it’s his willful public celebration NOT OF HIS OFFICE, but of his personal self.
