As part of the 2014 Louisville Idea Festival, I spoke with Bill Goodman of KET, Kentucky Educational Television, the PBS station in Louisville about both of my books, We Meant Well: How I Helped Lose the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People and Ghosts of Tom Joad: A Story of the #99 Percent.

Diplomacy? You surely didn’t mean the US State Department, did you? Using US diplomacy to solve problems our “diplomacy” has created in Iraq over fifty years is akin to allowing the Catholic Church to take the lead in ending sexual child abuse. The US should be listed on the Diplomatic Predators List and banned from “helping” itself to take advantage of the vulnerable.

I bet Pitch that you could do the whole interview without blinking once. You almost made it through until Goodman asked you what we should have done differently in this War Game. You blinked in disbelief and then quickly answered, “not to play the game.”

      But we were playing “tick-tack-dough.”
