• Voters: 50 Percent Say Clinton Should Keep Running Even If Indicted

In a statement I never expected to see in print, half of voters said in a survey a presidential candidate should continue to run for America’s highest office even if she is indicted for national security crimes.

For those who want historical markers to look back on, charting decline in civilization and deviations from reality, well, there’s a good one.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey, taken in late May, finds most voters (65%) believe Hillary Clinton is a lawbreaker, but half of all voters also say a felony indictment shouldn’t stop her campaign for the presidency.

Among Democratic voters, 71% believe Clinton should keep running even under indictment. Nearly half say it will have no impact on their vote. It is unclear that, in theory, that any of those surveyed understand a candidate indicted in the fall of 2016 could face trial/impeachment while in office in 2017.

Those surveyed are saying that even if the FBI releases a report saying their lengthy investigation shows there is enough evidence to bring Clinton before a grand jury, that does not matter to them.

In what I hope is a statistical anomaly, eight percent say indictment makes them more likely to vote for the former first lady.

Just to make this as clear as possible, Hillary Clinton is the only presidential candidate in the history of the United States to be running while under an FBI investigation for national security crimes that could reach as high as the Espionage Act. About 65% of American voters already believe she broke laws, ahead of the FBI results and when asked before the State Department Inspector General’s report was released.

But they’ll vote for her anyway. I am rarely at a loss for words, but this time I just don’t know what to say anymore.

I guess it proves that once the nation openly flouts the rule of law, which started under George W. Bush (not to mention the SC decision that put him in office) and continued even more openly under Obama (drone strikes? allowing the holding of Americans in military detention at the whim of the president? allowing the assassination of anyone the president decides needs to go?), the population understands and begins to accept that the law means nothing.

Look at the rise of the Libertarian Party: those people want no laws imposed on them whatsoever.

That, and we are now simply a nation of opposing cults. Not much thought going into anything any more, at any level.

I’m sure Hillary will give you lots of material to write about in the next four years.

One possible explanation is Amerika has been infected with a covert-Zika virus that shrinks the brain and leaves the skull intact.

      Peter,

I agree with the HuffPo article you wrote, although I would suggest that Clinton is not that much different from Trump and so doubt that we will have to wait until AFTER her time in office, assuming she is elected, to see true fascism come to America, which is the conclusion of that piece.

Going by the dictionary definition of fascism, we see it as:
      ***************
an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.
      • (in general use) extreme right-wing, authoritarian, or intolerant views or practice.
The term Fascism was first used of the totalitarian right-wing nationalist regime of Mussolini in Italy (1922–43), and the regimes of the Nazis in Germany and Franco in Spain were also fascist. Fascism tends to include a belief in the supremacy of one national or ethnic group, a contempt for democracy, an insistence on obedience to a powerful leader, and a strong demagogic approach.
      ****************
Clinton is not overtly, and I suspect not even covertly, racist in the traditional sense. At least not against blacks or Hispanics within this country. She does, however, hold a belief in “the supremacy of one national group” [e.g., Americans over the rest of the world and wealthy Americans over the poor anywhere, including in the US], and she is utterly contemptuous of democracy [one does not so frequently suggest and/or participate in the overthrowing of other nations for no reason other than the desire to force them to follow the dictats of America’s ruling plutocracy if one believes in democracy, and a strong case could be made that this primary season has shown a marked tendency for the Clinton machine to bypass ethical, democratic – small d – voting standards, not to mention her use of the Clinton Foundation to impose Monsanto on the globe.]

She certainly feels herself above the law and would, I believe, run away with the powers inherent in the office of the president as they currently exist; note must be taken that the executive branch has been allowed to vastly over-reach its authority since about the year 2000.

A significant contingent of the country seems to want a strongman/fascist style leader, which is basically the desire of a cult looking for a cult leader coming to the fore.

We are one emergency – contrived or real – away from a large segment of our society agreeing to rule by martial law and presidential fiat, Congress and law be damned. Clinton would happily oblige should the opportunity present itself. There are forces that will furthermore be happy to make that opportunity arise.

This is a woman who does not hesitate to orchestrate coups on foreign leaders, who regularly interferes with the governance of other countries, and who finds the deaths of tens of thousands, instigated at her request, amusing and satisfactory.

She most certainly hides her proclivities toward a strongman’s reign better than Trump does, but that doesn’t mean she would not take any chance offered to step into the role if an excuse were offered. The only difference is that Trump might deport all the Muslims straight out of the gate – she’ll wait and imprison all the dissidents when she declares war on Russia or Iran. In the meantime, she’ll get rid of social security, squelch any talk of single-payer health care, bail out the bankers (again – the day is coming that they will be back looking for more), and increase the hold that private corporations have over the country. Her followers will back her no matter what she does – there is not one whit difference between them and Trump’s followers in this regard.

Everyone seriously underestimates her desire for power and her ruthlessness toward obtaining it. Make no mistake; she is lethal and she is a bit demented. Not a good, or predictable, combination.

Of course, the assholes running this show might be creating the beginnings of a new civil war here before the election; Trump’s cult vs Clinton’s. Not sure where that leaves the Sanders people, except in a really tight spot.

      Teri,

Hillary is a calculating bitch who is lost in her bubble, but it’s the millions of bubbleheads who support her that are the real problem. You can always count on them to be on the wrong side of history.

Not a big surprise when considering in the world of “war is peace”…the following idea

Obama could be considered a conservative’s dream. He’s opened up more offshore drilling than Bush, expanded fracking, deported more people than any president in history, killed thousands of Muslims (and is currently bombing seven Muslim countries), raised military budgets, cut federal taxes to their lowest levels in 60 years, cut social programs, spent almost 8 years trying to strike a “grand bargain” with Republicans to cut Social Security and Medicare (until recently, when, in his last months in office, he’s suddenly decided we should increase Social Security), worked hard to derail public healthcare in favor of a program drawn up by a conservative think-tank and first used by a Republican governor, put troops on the Russian border, beefed up US military presence in Asia to threaten China, supported right-wing coups in Latin America, gave Wall Street trillions of dollars in bailouts and credits, refused to prosecute any CIA officials for torture (despite admitting “we tortured some folks”), jailed more whistle blowers than any other president, pushed fanatically pro-business trade treaties, and so on.

Yet there is a mass delusion that he is some kind of socialist peacenik “surrendering to terrorists” and giving away “free stuff” to the lazy poor (when in fact the poor and the middle class are sinking, while the rich have never been richer), etc.
