A Media Blacklist, Courtesy of WaPo: Now I’m Afraid for Our Democracy
In most third world societies, when people don’t like the results of an election, they take to the streets. In America, we take to the Internet.
But the end result is the same. The system is undermined because we do not like the results it yielded. Accusations of something unfair having happened are slung around, usually either unsupported by facts, based on faux “statistical anomalies,” or via a small data set that is blown up into something general to prove “the system is unfair/corrupt/wrong/inaccurate” to people who already believe that to be true but need talking points for their Facebook pages.This is the thought process that is driving the wishful thinking behind the recount efforts, and campaigns to push the Electoral College into voting Hillary Clinton into the White House.
Of course a nice tag-along is if this can all be blamed on an outside third party. Dissatisfied people have little interest in blaming themselves, their flawed candidate, or acknowledging the strengths of the opponent among a large segment of voters. Nope, easier to blame someone else. For that, a person who has been molded into a one-word symbol of, well, everything and anything Americans fear, Putin.
And so a recent article in the Washington Post terrifies me. It is at a level of journalism that previously was reserved for conspiracy theories on Geocities’ style web sites. Here’s a selection from the article:The flood of “fake news” this election season got support from a sophisticated Russian propaganda campaign that created and spread misleading articles online with the goal of punishing Democrat Hillary Clinton, helping Republican Donald Trump and undermining faith in American democracy.
Russia’s increasingly sophisticated propaganda machinery — including thousands of botnets, teams of paid human “trolls,” and networks of websites and social-media accounts — echoed and amplified right-wing sites across the Internet as they portrayed Clinton as a criminal hiding potentially fatal health problems and preparing to hand control of the nation to a shadowy cabal of global financiers.
So: Clinton lost because Russia wanted Trump to win because Trump will favor Russia so Russia created fake news which influenced over 62 million Americans to overlook Trump’s flaws and vote for him. Got it.
Proof? Stuff on Facebook. Main source of that proof? A group of unknown origin, financing, and makeup (“an independent team of concerned American citizens”) called PropOrNot, i.e., propaganda or not. The group also “strongly suspects that some of the individuals involved have violated the Espionage Act, the Foreign Agent Registration Act, and other related laws.”A second source quoted by the Washington Post is Clint Watts, a fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute (which has been around in one form or another since the 1950s, dedicated to the Cold War), who says of the Russians “They want to essentially erode faith in the U.S. government or U.S. government interests.” Watts’s report on his work appeared on a blog this month as Trolling for Trump: How Russia Is Trying to Destroy Our Democracy. That piece claims without any real evidence at all that “Russia is actively trying to put Donald Trump in the White House… And the evidence is compelling.”
I encourage everyone to read some of the linked articles. This is seriously scary Cold War paranoia stuff.
And guess what? The ProporNot group has created a (black)list of websites that it claims are controlled/influenced by the Russians. While — dammit — this website in not included, I take some solace in noting that I have written for or been reprinted by 11 of them.“They use our technologies and values against us to sow doubt,” said Robert Orttung, a George Washington University professor who studies Russia, quoted in the article.
And that sounds dangerously close to saying our First Amendment’s freedom of speech provisions seem to be the root of this threat to American democracy.

In 2013, Congress overturned a long-existing law that prohibited the government from using propaganda in US media to influence Americans. Not that they weren’t directly and openly using propaganda before that – anyone notice the “retired military officers” and “intelligence officers” who outright lied in a successful effort to sell the Iraq war? (Etc., etc.) Changing the law simply made it legal for them to do it again. Do please note that Obama, never a good friend to the freedom of the press idea (see his war on whistle-blowers for example) signed this bill into law.

The US State Dept regularly uses propaganda to try and sway the opinion of people in foreign countries. They have a branch devoted entirely to this effort. When we do it, it is “spreading democracy”. Assuming Russia does it here, it requires a military response. (LOL – yeah, they got hundreds of agents pretending to be journalists who convince editors to run their pro-Russia stories in the media every fucking day. The CIA, meanwhile, actually does have hundreds of agents pretending to be journalists, including in the US, whose stories are guaranteed to be run by editors of the MSM every fucking day.)
Voice of America. Look them up, if you don’t know what VoA is. Our tax-payer dollars used to bring correct thinking to the unswayed everywhere. Propaganda, much?

I had hoped that the one thing we could count on with the election of Trump, the only good thing, near as I can tell (the man is an oaf, a simpleton, a buffoon, a skell looking for a con, a billionaire who will serve billionaires and spit on the commoners) is that there would be an end to the drive for war with Russia. Obviously, I under-estimated the voracious pull of the Clinton black hole. This bullshit “war on fake news” is dangerous dangerous shit, and that it is driven by a neoliberal/neocon propaganda push against Russia is going to lead to disaster.

No, I don’t have a solution. That’s above my pay grade. We are in Terminal Capitalism, which is exactly like a game of Monopoly. In the end, one guy owns all the stuff and all the money, but he’s killed off the other guys to get it and now he doesn’t have anyone left to play with. Funny how they never think about what happens when the game ends.
I think humans are to a large extent disappointingly dull-witted and selfish, given to mad fits of brutality and misanthropy. The few sparks of decency you might find in other fellow travelers as you walk about this life ought to be valued as the rare points of light that they are.
There are no solutions – everyone’s talking and no-one is listening. Too many people willing to kill for profit and too many people who look like targets.
I do have a suggestion or two, however. Try to be a good human despite it all. And keep your head down and your elbows out. And the last one out of here, turn off the lights, will ya?

Couple weeks ago…
Went by one of the houses I own, just checking on it. Its located near a church. Good Christians. (we call it ‘Jonestown’, with cause. They had a preacher for a while…. Yeah… He was a piece of work.)
So… I’m at the house, see one of the good Christian ladies at the church… Go up a say hi… She’s waiting for another lady so they can go buy food for the needy thing, for thanksgiving.
I hear that, I hand her a handful of cash to help. She counts it in front of me, and Never says thank you. . No biggie. Bitch. But no biggie.
So, a few days later, nice man down the road, never have spoken to him, but he always waves and smiles, ( I was trying not to get caught) went by his house.. VERY low income… But… His yard always is immaculate.. House could use paint…
So, as I get caught, man comes walking out of his house, saying “can I help you?”
I say ” nope, but, you know your yard always looks so nice, thought you might want a bit of help with the house”.
He just stares…. Huh? Look….. With a serious look of desperate about him….
So, I hand him a bag with brushes, stir sticks, etc…
And say… “come on, you have to do your part..”
Walk him to the back of the truck… Hand him a bag full of groceries… And a 25lbs ham… And say… Give that to your wife.
He’s instantly defensive.. “my Wife!!!!???”
I’m like. ” yeah… That ham either needs to get in the freezer, or cooked, soon”
He’s just staring….
So… I tell him…” come on… These things are heavy… So lend a hand”…and we carry the 2 5 gallons of paint up to his house…
He’s staring… And asks… ” are you an angel???”
I’m like… “no Sir… Only type of angel I will ever qualify for is ‘arch-angel”
He says/asks… “arch angel??”
I respond… “yep.. Arch-angel…. You know… God’s muscle… He sends people like me when someone really needs their ass beat ”
He responds.. ” are you sure???? I was just Praying for some help…. Then I heard your engine . ”
I talked to him a bit longer. He asked if I knew a mechanic, because his truck had broke down. (sounds like distributor).
He said he knew a kid that said he could fix it for 20.00 dollars… But, he didn’t have 20.00.
( fyi, I have had a weapons permit most of adult life)
He had seen my pistol, and commented on it.. I reassured him, it had Nothing to do with him, just that I’m almost always armed )
So… As he talking about his truck, and the kid who says he can fix it… I reach behind my back… Around where my pistol is… He instantly draws back..duh…so guy he’s never met, reaches toward a gun…duh.. Wonder why he drew back…… And bring out the envelope, that I had put a quick note on, signed with an “M”
And said… ” now you have your 20.00″
The look of gratitude… Shock… Thankfulness… Etc… Overwhelming
Kept asking if I was an angel…. Kept telling him, I owe a lot for the world I have. Over and over again.
Not sure he got it.
I told him I had to go… As I was pulling out… I looked back…. I could see tears on his face… Utter shock…
And… He Still had not opened the envelope…
Utter gratitude…. That it had happened…did not care that there was a … Bit…. More than 20.00 in the envelope.
Went back by, just before Thanksgiving… Did the same sort of thing…turkey this time ….
Different person… The desperate quality is gone.
Mass gratitude….
He has already started painting the house.
PS…
Saw the new preacher at the church a few days after dropping the cash on the good Christian woman. Anytime the doors open she’s there.
Big house. Brand new car.
Bitch stole the cash.

“open carry” has always been allowed… What the new laws apply to, are only people with current, valid CCW (carry concealed weapons) permits.
By definition, a weapon can only be carried concealed… Unless needed.
The law allows for… If your jacket moves… Doing whatever.. That you have not broken the law.
The universities…. Texas did a study a few years ago… The results were that…..
There was never, other than a mess in Pennsylvania during/right after WW1, school shootings… Til the fed passed the gun free zone laws…
Which guaranteed that these bastards that shoot up schools…. Would never be shot back at.
Kind of a proactive approach.
Example. Houston…. Couple months ago.
Original story went mainstream…. Til the whole story came out…. Then mainstream would not touch it with a cruise missile.
Bad guy, pulls a rifle… Starts shooting at a crowd. Second bad guy pulls gun, starts shooting.
Mainstream reported it as 2 bad guys.
Turns out, second “bad guy”. Valid permit, legsl weapon…had drawn and engaged the shooter.
Guy ended up getting hit 3 times… Was briefly “detained” til witness statements were gathered ( this is procedure).
Guy managed to go head to head against an assault rifle, with a pistol. Dropped the bad guy….
He is being credited with saving 300 lives… Including 4 cops.
I understand his money is no good down there. Including the hospital, that has refused to bill him.
There are many, many other instances of things just like that.
Personally, been there done that. Never fired. But the girl that was being beaten along side I-20… She lived.
They caught the bad guy on the LA side.
He will get out of LA somewhere around the year 3,000… Then Texas gets him til the year 4,000.
Point is…. Guns on campuses…. These shooters… They are just twisted little cowards….
They won’t go to places where people are going to shoot back.
That’s why that bastard in Dallas… He had to be stopped anyway possible. Anyway.
He was not afraid to engage armed, trained cops. So the risks to unarmed, untrained people, were off the charts.
Do I agree with blowing him up…. With a weaponized drone…. For the first time in the history of law enforcement… Anywhere….. Hell no!!!
Was it neccesary to stop any more killing…. Yes.
The guy was not a criminal…. he saw himself as a soldier in some sort of war on cops.
So, he had to be stopped. Anyway possible.

The situation that in referred to in Pennsylvania… Back around WW1… Still the worst school shooting…. Ever.
Guy who did it…. With kids there… Blew up part of the school… To draw in responders… Then fired on them…. After they got him. The rest of his explosives went off.
The 24 news cycle we have now, makes it seem like it’s something new.
Do I have a perfect solution…. No. Wish I did. But for now…. The only choice I can see….is scare these bastards as bad as they scare the rest of us.
