• Should We Punch Nazis in the Head?

    No, we should not.

Condoning, applauding or giggling over the idea of punching people in the head whose political positions, however abhorrent, we don’t agree with is so wrong I am not even sure why it is necessary to talk about it. However, given the events of this weekend, it seems we have to talk about it.

“Is it OK to punch a Nazi for what he said?” is a question bouncing around the media and the Internet after an attack on Richard Spencer following the Trump inauguration. Spencer created the term alt-right. On video, he was explaining the meaning of Pepe the Frog, a silly cartoon figure somehow adopted as a mascot by the racist, far-right fringe movement Spencer promotes as anti-immigrant, anti-Semitic and anti-feminist.

The punch was captured on video:

There are over 4,500 comments on YouTube alone, and most condone the punch. The most popular format is to say “I don’t condone violence BUT…” and then go on to condone violence. Another popular comment is to mention Hitler, WWII and the defeat of the Nazis, and somehow see the video as a part of that 70-year-old global struggle fought between nation states.

The main thrust of commentary is that violence is now justified as a response to speech by the right some do not care for. More than a few people have suggested punching someone in the head is in fact a form of protected free speech itself, and others seem to think whatever they label as “hate speech” is a crime. Others mouth stuff along the lines of “the end justifies the means.”

A popular meme is to put different songs, many calling for violence themselves, behind the punching video. Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for Barack Obama, tweeted “I don’t care how many different songs you set Richard Spencer being punched to, I’ll laugh at every one.”

    Where to begin?

    — If violence against those exercising their First Amendment rights (speech, religion, etc.) can ever be condoned, why wouldn’t that also condone tearing off a woman’s hijab, or lynching someone? See how the “violence is justified” argument can work?

    — There are no laws against hate speech. Details here.

    — Punching people is not a form of protected speech. Expressed legally in a number of ways, Supreme Court Judge Oliver Wendell Holmes stated “The right to swing my fist ends where the other man’s nose begins.”

    — Free speech protection covers all the things people want to say, from the furthest left to the furthest right. You can burn a flag, display a nude body, fill a fish tank with urine and call it art, put on a KKK uniform and march past a Black church, and say whatever Richard Spencer was saying. It means I can write this article.

    — The First Amendment and the broader traditions of free speech are there to protect the most challenging awful mean terrible hateful racist sexist anti-American garbage people can spew out. The protections are not there to cover the easy stuff most people agree with (though they do.) That is the whole point.

    — The ACLU has defended the right of both Nazis and the KKK to speak.

It saddens me greatly to see even one person suggest violence as a proper response to the exercise of our precious right to free speech.

It saddens me even more when everyone of us cannot see thinking you are opposing fascism by beating up those who ideas you disagree with.

John Lewis, Barack Obama, hell, any Democratic politician, waiting on you to denounce this. Also, everyone on Twitter and elsewhere saying I personally support genocide, is it possible for you to understand I support the concept of free speech in its purest form, and none of that implies support for any specific position, from naked art photos to Holocaust deniers to the films of Jerry Lewis. I am simply astounded how many people are unable to distinguish between support for speech itself from support for what someone says. I expected this from the right someday, am gobsmacked that it hit me from the left. Sigh.

      Professor Van Buren, Sir…

You did not say anything on Friday, about a pop quiz on Monday morning,

Outlining the moral cause and effect of punching a twisted individual, by another twisted individual… In an effort to prove which is more wrong.

Or….. To include in said pop quiz…. The immorality of an esteemed individual, who may more may not have been allowed to speak on behalf of the President of the United States ( with, I’m presuming, no response of denial ??? ). As stated here…

” A popular meme is to put different songs, many calling for violence themselves, behind the punching video. Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for Barack Obama, tweeted “I don’t care how many different songs you set Richard Spencer being punched to, I’ll laugh at every one.” ”

      So…. Agreed….. No one has that right…. But….as a side note….

Isn’t it hate speech that has taken this nation…. To the outrageous “protests ” witnessed here… And the world over, for the last few days?

Or…. Is it a total disconnect from the reality…..

That we as a species…. Have to get along. ….????

And Obama wonders why he lost peoples respect ?

      …………..

” Officials said Monday that the Obama administration– in its waning hours– defied Republican opposition and quietly released $221 million to the Palestinian Authority that GOP members of Congress had been blocking.

A State Department official and several congressional aides told The Associated Press that the outgoing administration formally notified Congress it would spend the money Friday morning.

The official said former Secretary of StateJohn Kerryhad informed some lawmakers of the move shortly before he left the State Department for the last time Thursday.

The aides said written notification dated Jan. 20 was sent to Congress just hours beforeDonald Trumptook the oath of office.

In addition to the $221 million for the Palestinians, the Obama administration also told Congress on Friday it was going ahead with the release of another $6 million in foreign affairs spending, including $4 million for climate change programs and $1.25 million forU.N.organizations, the congressional aides said.

The aides and the State Department official weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter and demanded anonymity.

Congress had initially approved the Palestinian funding in budget years 2015 and 2016, but at least two GOP lawmakers Ed Royceof California, the chairman of theHouse Foreign Affairs Committee, andKay Grangerof Texas, who sits on theHouse Appropriations Committee had placed holds on it over moves the Palestinian Authority had taken to seek membership in international organizations.

Congressional holds are generally respected by the executive branch but are not legally binding after funds have been allocated.

The Obama administration had for some time been pressing for the release of the money for the Palestinian Authority, which comes from theU.S.

Agency for International Developmentand is to be used for humanitarian aid in the West Bank and Gaza, to support political and security reforms as well as help prepare for good governance and the rule of law in a future Palestinian state, according to the notification sent to Congress.

The Palestinian funding is likely to draw anger from some in Congress as well as theTrump White House. Trump has vowed to be a strong supporter of Israel and has invited Israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahuto visit Washington next month.

Some of Trumps incoming administration has been split on whether to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.

The Washington Postnoted that most of the world doesnt recognize Jerusalem as Israels capital. East Jerusalem is also considered occupied territory, which Palestinians hope to call their capital if a two-state solution is ever reached.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Trumps U.N. ambassador, said Wednesday that she would back the embassy move, while Trumps Defense Secretary nominee retired Marine Gen. James Mattis said he would stick to U.S. policy regarding Jerusalem.

Trumps next ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, supports Israeli settlements and other changes to U.S. policies in the region.

Friedman said he looked forward to carrying out his duties from “the U.S. embassy in Israel’s eternal capital, Jerusalem,” even though the embassy is in Tel Aviv. Trump advisers have said that the president-elect will follow through on his call for moving the embassy. “

      She has a point.

And Not just for the reporters.

      ………….

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway told Fox News Monday that reporters covering the West Wing who mock President Donald Trump “ought to think about what they’re really doing.”

“If they snark, if they roll their eyes, if their Twitter feed is filled with 92 percent anti-Trump tweets, they’re not being reporters, they’re being opinion columnists,” Conway told Fox News’ Sean Hannity in a White House interivew. “They’re being professional political hacks and pundits, and we have a right to call that out.”

Conway said an erroneous pool report that a bust of Martin Luther King Jr. had been removed from the Oval Office after Trump’s inauguration Friday was an example of “presumptive negativity” toward the new administration from the mainstream media.

“[The pool reporter] puts it out, it gets tweeted and it gets reported 3,000 times — you still can’t take it back,” Conway said. “He apologized to his colleagues in the press. He has not apologized to the President and the damage is done because then people look at Donald Trump as [racist].

“The darn bust was right there. I was next to it. It was being hidden by a guard,” Conway added. “But why didn’t you ask us? Why didn’t you say ‘where’s the bust?'”

Conway also said that Trump’s first priority as president is boosting the economy, a process that includes the repeal and replacement of ObamaCare.

“Its been detrimental to millions of Americans who already lost their insurance, lost their doctors, lost their plans,” Conway said. “They were promised otherwise and theyre in a much less favorable position now because of ObamaCare.”

Another component of Trump’s economic plan is the reduction of corporate taxes, which Conway said would be done “dramatically.”

“What’s important about reducing the burdens on employers is that those are individuals who are deciding whether they can attract and retain a workforce here in America, or if they’re going to have to go elsewhere,” Conway said. “Those are the people deciding whether they can afford to pay their workers benefits, like pensions, retirement funds and certainly health care and other benefits.” “

” A new poll suggests one in three California residents would support a possible secession from the U.S. because of their opposition to President Donald Trump.

“There’s such hostility towards Trump that many citizens believe it would be smarter to leave than fight,” Democratic political strategist Steve Maviglio told Reuters.

Maviglio ran a campaign in 2016 against an initiative to break California into six separate states.

A Reuters survey revealed Monday that 32 percent support the so-called “Calexit,” an increase of 12 percent since the last poll was conducted in 2014 – during the same time Scotland held its independence referendum and chose to stay in the United Kingdom.

National poll results revealed 22 percent favored secession, down from 24 percent in 2014.

According to Reuters, the poll questioned 500 Californians among more than 14,000 others nationwide from Dec. 9 to Jan. 19. The poll’s margin of error in California was 5 percentage points and 1 percentage. ”

The 30-year-old victim was bitten at his apartment at around 6:45 a.m. Monday in the city’s East Liberty neighborhood after a verbal argument turned physical. He ran to a gas station for help.

Police spokeswoman Emily Schaffer says she isn’t able to say whether the victim supported Trump or opposed him.

The victim’s ear was recovered by police in the apartment. Police say he was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in stable condition.

President Trump repeated a widely debunked claim on Monday during his first White House meeting with congressional leaders, where he insisted that 3 million to 5 million illegal immigrants voted in the election, stealing the popular vote from him and giving it to Hillary Clinton.

Trump made the bogus voter fraud claim — a viral conspiracy theory — while discussing Cabinet picks with lawmakers from both parties, according to The Wall Street Journal.

He reportedly spent some 10 minutes griping about the 2016 election results, which showed Clinton beating him by 2.8 million popular votes nationwide.

President Donald Trump’s so-called “America First Energy Plan” may be dedicated to tapping domestic fossil fuel reserves—like fracked gas, oil, and even coal—but it turns out that the majority of Americans would rather see a move towards renewable sources, such as wind and solar.

A Pew Research survey published Monday found that 65 percent of Americans “give priority to developing alternative energy sources, compared with 27 percent who would emphasize expanded production of fossil fuel sources.”

While a full 81 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents favor renewable power over the polluting alternatives, even Trump’s own party is split. “Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are closely divided,” Pew notes, with 45 percent of conservatives saying that priority should be given to developing alternative sources, versus 44 who prefer to expand production of oil, coal, and natural gas.

” Journalist Glenn Greenwald told Fox News Thursday that there is “obvious open warfare” between the intelligence community and President-elect Donald Trump, with Democrats “openly calling for and cheering for the intervention of the CIA.”

Greenwald spoke to “Tucker Carlson Tonight” regarding reports that Trump and President Barack Obama had been briefed about unverified allegations that Russian spies had collected compromising personal and financial information about the president-elect. A dossier containing the most salacious allegations was published by BuzzFeed earlier this week.

Greenwald said Democrats and liberals are “hoping … that this unelected faction in Washington will undermine and subvert and destroy the legitimacy of Donald Trumps presidency before hes even inaugurated and I think what youre seeing is actually quite dangerous.”

The Intercept writer told Carlson that he believed the Central Intelligence Agency supported Democrat Hillary Clinton during the recent presidentil election because Trump “was a threat to the CIAs primary institutional priority of regime change in Syria.

“Beyond that,” Greenwald added, “Clinton wanted a much more confrontational and belligerent posture toward Moscow, which the CIA has been acrimonious with for decades, whereas Trump wanted better relations. I think they viewed Trump as a threat to their institutional preeminence, to their ability to get their agenda imposed on Washington.”

Greenwald also said that most of the mainstream media is unduly deferential toward the U.S. intelligence community, despite their reputation for skepticism of such institutions.

“Whenever it comes to national security issues, especially in the post-9/11 era … you see this incredibly close relationship between the media and the intelligence agencies,” he said. “When [the media] serve their agenda, they get scoops, they get secret documents, they get access, and I think a lot of that is what youre seeing on top of the fact that the media has been aligned against Trump and will side with anybody who wants to subvert him, including the CIA. ”

Little dick Kochsucker should ask for a reach-around from the bros:

President Trump moved assertively to further dismantle his predecessor’s policies as he revived the Keystone XL pipeline that stirred years of debate over the balance between the nation’s energy needs and efforts to stem climate change.

Former President Barack Obama rejected the proposed 1,179-mile pipeline in 2015, arguing that it would undercut American leadership in curbing the reliance on carbon energy. Mr. Trump signed a document clearing the way to government approval of the pipeline as well as for the Dakota Access pipeline in North Dakota.

A senior U.S. Secret Service agent posted social-media condemnations of President Trump during the past seven months, including one in which she said she wouldn’t want to “take a bullet” for him.

She explained herself saying she viewed his presidential candidacy as a “disaster” for the country, and especially for women and minorities.

Kerry O’Grady, the special agent in charge of the Secret Service’s Denver district, oversees coordination with Washington-based advance teams for all presidential candidate and presidential trips to the area, including all upcoming or future trips by the president, vice president or Trump administration officials.

Despite her senior security role, she has made her disdain for Trump and his incoming administration clear to her Facebook followers, who included current and former Secret Service agents and other people who were employees at the time of the posts. O’Grady’s posts triggered at least one complaint to the office that oversees investigations into Secret Service misbehavior, two knowledgeable sources told the Washington Examiner. ”

Section 4. Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.[3]

      Bauer…

Are you so twisted…. That you think this was the only case of this happening????

      ………..

“. Jerry Mosna was gardening outside his San Pedro, Calif., home Saturday when he noticed something odd: Two stacks of 2016 ballots on his mailbox.

The 83 ballots, each unused, were addressed to different people, all supposedly living in his elderly neighbor’s two-bedroom apartment.

“I think this is spooky,” Mosna said. “All the different names, none we recognize, all at one address.”

His wife, Madalena Mosna, noted their 89-year-old neighbor lives by herself, and, “Eighty people can’t fit in that apartment.”

They took the ballots to the Los Angeles Police Department, but were directed to the post office. They felt little comfort there would be an investigation, and called another neighbor, John Cracchiolo – who contacted the Los Angeles County Registrar’s office.

A spokeswoman for the Registrar said the office will investigate. Both Cracchiolo and Jerry Mosna told FoxNews.com they think they stumbled upon a case of fraud.

In a statement, the office of the Registrar said, “We are carefully reviewing our records and gathering information to fully identify what took place.  Our preliminary assessment is that this appears to be an isolated situation related to a system error that occurred causing duplicate ballots to be issued to an address entered for a single voter. We are working directly with the system vendor to ensure the issue is addressed and to identify any similar occurrences.”

Further, spokeswoman Brenda Duran said the Postal Service “has indicated that they returned all of the improperly addressed ballots to our office.”

Spokesman Richard Maher confirmed the U.S. Postal Inspection Service has offered its assistance. He would not comment on the number of incidents, saying only there are “relatively few.”

John Fund, a journalist and co-author with Hans von Spakovsky of the book, “Who’s Counting: How Fraudsters and Bureaucrats Put Your Vote at Risk,” said someone could easily have voted with these ballots using a variety of fake signatures.

“It is doubtful they would have ever been detected,” Fund said.

Von Spakovsky, senior legal fellow and manager of the Election Law Reform Initiative at the Heritage Foundation, said voter fraud is prevalent enough that it could make the difference in a close election. The Heritage Foundation, he said, has recorded 430 cases of voter fraud — proven cases where someone was convicted or a judge ordered a new election.

A former FEC commissioner and counsel to the assistant attorney general for civil rights at the U.S. Justice Department, von Spakovsky said California is of particular concern because of the rising number of noncitizens illegally registering and voting in elections, as well as the “terrible shape” the voter registration rolls are in.

The 89-year-old neighbor to whom the stack of ballots was addressed is hard of hearing, and was unavailable for comment. The Mosnas stressed that the ballots clearly were not for her — and have not even discussed the issue with her.  ”

That is why he was in a big hurry to sign the Keystone pipeline order.

The Kochs must have popped champagne when Trump announced that Mike Pence, the conservative governor of Indiana, would be his running mate. Pence is adored by the Kochs and their vast political donor network; Ken Vogel and Maggie Haberman described him in Politico as “among the best … messengers for this new Koch brand in a field of prospective [presidential] candidates who fit some portions of the brothers’ political bent but not others.”

Pence has addressed a gathering of Americans for Prosperity, the Kochs’ most well-known political group that spends millions on elections each cycle opposing liberal policies and helping elect conservative Republicans. This year he planned to speak at one of the Kochs’ donor seminars, where the brothers meet with uber-wealthy allies and pool their hundreds of millions of dollars for joint political spending, but canceled two weeks beforehand.

David Koch gave Pence’s two gubernatorial campaigns $300,000. Americans for Prosperity ran ads supporting Pence, and the Republican Governors Association, to which Koch and Koch Industries have donated a combined $10.8 million since 2003, spent $4.2 million in 2012 and 2016 backing Pence.David Koch gave Pence’s two gubernatorial campaigns $300,000. Pence, who may be an even more powerful vice president than Dick Cheney, will be in prime position to advocate for the issues about which the Kochs care most, including corporate tax cuts, which he instituted in Indiana, and opposition to bailouts and market regulation. According to Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., Pence will be in charge of both domestic and foreign policy. And he’ll preside over the U.S. Senate, over which Republicans have a narrow majority.

      Btw.

      I think ???… Maybe…. The conservatives…GOP… Liberals… DNC… What the fuck ever….( protest… Or what the fuckever )

      Are about to get a lesson…. That I think… I realized… About president Trump…. A while ago….

      What I realized…….. Is he is not a republican…. He’s sure as hell not a democrat….

      He’s a business-man….

Dollars and cents…. Plain and simple….neat rows of what’s profitable…. And what’s not.

If you do your job…..and…. Do a good job…… Your good…

. If not….. Your unemployed……. And pack your bags.
      And get out of town.
( President Trump has proven this Repeatedly )( just as he has proven he will call bullshit whenever he needs to )

The same decisions I make…. Everyday. ….. The kind of decisions that keep me up at night.

( btw…. For those that hate President Trump so much…. Near as I can tell…. He’s getting about 2.5 hours sleep a night…TRYING to fix the fucking mess elected ” officials ” have spent fucking YEARS CREATING !!! ( and yes…. I know several are praying for President Trump’s failure…. Which only shows…. Those people are as wrapped up in the BS as the “elected officials ” ) ( hate for the need of hate ).

The big test…. Will come in a few days……..

This test….(link below )…… IF THERE is NO PORK…IF….. BIG FUCKING IF……. Simply… because he dealing with the “pay me off ” crowd… Aka… Politicians…

If this has no pork….. Its a good deal……and…. Will create….DNC estimates….. 15 million jobs…. Real.world…. 25 millions….. ( shipping, manufacture , etc ). How many more is that than Obama EVER CREATED????

      http://topstories.foxnews.mobi/quickPage.html?page=17224&content=118616062&pageNum=-1

If I’m right….. The GOP and the DNC….. They are dealing with someone in President Trump’s case….

That they are completely un-prepared to deal with.

Its called…. ” the real fucking world ”

Which none of them have had to deal with in FUCKING DECADES. ( shit…Hillary has not had a drivers license since I was in high school, how much more ‘disconected ‘ can you get than that?… Drivers and protection )

They have been so…. Entrenched…..against each other that they have TOTALLY, COMPLETELY forgotten who the hell they actually work for……. So entrenched in opposing…. Simply because the other side came up with the idea…

entrenched in the idea of fighting for their “party “.. Was fighting for the “people “…….. Such bullshit.

That they have forgotten ( willingly… Or for the benefit of their checking accounts ) who the hell they work of…

      Which is the American People….

      If I’m right…. Which I will learn in a few days….

President Trump will approve and sign the Bill above…..

      Not because he’s Pitchfork’s, Bauer’s and Teri’s devil….

      Or…. The fucking GOP’s savior……

But because he’s a businessman….. Who took on a job…. At a loss…( some Business people might call it a MASSIVE FUCKING LOSS )…. To do the “right thing” …
      For his employees….

And in this case….those employees are called…

      The People…of…

      The United States of America.

If…. IF…….I’m right…. This is something that the political crowd… Are completely unable to deal with…… Much less…. Even recognize…( insert whoever’s name you need to) ….( in Bloodypitchfork, Bauer , and Teri’s case. ….and….. Maybe Peter’s…..Some smartass named Mitch ).

      Beyond that……

      Good luck.

What was Obama’s vision? To become rich by helping the rich. All the other “vision” stuff was just a ruse. Trump: “Been there-done that” with the rich thingee.
Trump may want to achieve something more notable and that is scaring the plutocracy. Imagine! The plutocracy -which includes their servants the MSM- afraid of Trump? The rich backed Obama in 2008 because they knew he was their status quo guy.
He served them well for 8 years and has earned the right to play an occasional round of golf with the plutocracy. He’s one of them now-“Barry, you did it (for us) -my half crackah”.

      John,

Did you see Vice President Pence’s statement on the 20th… About “post turtles” ?

I’m sure you saw the email jokes going around about Obama about that.

With Obama…. People…powerful people….people with lots of money….and agenda’s…. For their Personal wants and needs…they Put him there…. To do what they wanted…

      With Trump and Pence…

Pence openly acknowledged they are post turtles…. And they were put there…. By other very powerful people….

Execpt this time…. Those powerful people are called ” WE THE PEOPLE “.

Pence openly acknowledged with his “joke”…. He knows exactly how he became the second most powerful person in the world.

Trump said it directly in his speech… ‘today…. The nation is yours again ‘….

Not all that different than the Arab Spring…… Just not as many guns… Yet…

The ‘protesters…..’…. They have had ‘la la land ‘ for so long…..reality…. unreachable….

And the wake up call…. It hurts them…..kind of like juvenile delinquents……

BBC and other ‘mainstream ‘…. They are bitching and whining about the exc order to stop funding out of nation abortions….” men making decisions about womens bodies “.

Trump is not doing that…..period !….

What Trump is doing is taking care of the people of the United States FIRST !!!
      .
Just like his speech /address….. Short…..Straight up… To the point …. No bullshit….

      Which…. I for one……am grateful for !

You know…. All the protesting craziness…. Its spread over seas???… Brussels looks like a bomb was dropped on it.
